As a copy editor for educational companies, academic journals, and research organizations, I read interesting things for fun and profit.
However, sometimes even I don’t understand what authors are trying to say on my first reading. Because I am paid, however, I will keep rereading and thinking it through until I figure out what the heck a sentence or paragraph means.
Most readers will not reread.
Sometimes I’m lucky, and my client has specifically asked me to rewrite a section or a document; even luckier, I am sometimes asked to re-envision the entire concept of the document.
